Finding parking in metropolitan cities can be very challenging. Puerto Rico is no different. If you have ever been to San Juan, you know how hard it is to find parking, especially at malls.
There is a new product in the market that may help. It’s called My Park. My Park allows its users to reserve a parking spot using their Apple or Android device.
My Park has been operating in the US Mainland since 2015 and has expanded their operation to Puerto Rico. My Park Puerto Rico currently operates in 3 locations, Carolina Mall, The Outlet Mall in Barceloneta and the Plaza Las Americas. They do however plan to expand to other malls, hospitals, tourist attractions and private garages throughout the island.
Once you have down loaded the app and created your profile, it’s pretty straight forward.
Find Your Space
Reserve your space in advance on the app OR go to your destination and select your space. Once you have selected your space, you have 15 minutes to arrive to your spot.
Arrive at your space
Tap “Let me in”, the MyPark device lowers letting you in your parking spot.
Downloading the app is free. However, there is a price for reserving your premium parking spot. In Puerto Rico, the cost is $ 3.00 for up to 2 hours and $3 every other hour. MyPark also offers daily and monthly fees.
In the US some establishments offer validations. I’m sure that will also be the case in Puerto Rico.
MyPark has the potential to be a great product. I truly hope that MyPark is expanded to other parts of the island. I think it’s a great alternative to help with the parking issues in Puerto Rico, especially in San Juan.
